SAHRA 2011 Regional Championship Rally
The rally took place in the Bronkhorstspruit area mostly on the Witklip farm that is owned by Hans van Rensburg.
The recognisance run went off with out any issues and the rally started at 14h00 at the venue provided by one of our sponsors, Godrich Toyota. Despite the heavy taxi and local traffic the start was well controlled by the marshaling team and Henry Dearlove jnr while Henry Dearlove snr was doing crowd control and providing the public with information about the competitors as they left the start line to take on the route.

Henry Dearlove snr in action

Henry Dearlove Jnr . The pre start holding area well controlled.
The SAHRA competitors that gathered in the pre-start holding area were all smiles and ready!

Danie Prinsloo with a Toyota Celica (hope to see it many more times) Is this the first standard car ?
The competors left Godrich Toyota for the first stage at Rustfontein which is owned by Harem. The stage had a couple of rough patches but overall a good stage producing some good results for SAHRA competitors. The surprise of the stage was the time posted by Etienne and Mauritz Malherbe in the Datsun 180U. Despite the age of the vehicle they managed to come seventh overall on the stage with Karl and Simon du Plessis in the Ranger (remember those cars?) hot on their heels with only one second between the two of them and Etienne only one second behind Riaan Erasmus and Herman Groenewald who was in a much more modern Toyota. Pierre de Clercq and Christoff Snyders 15th, Andries and Juana van Jaarsveld 17th, Nick and Patricia Theunissen 18th, Pieter Pilusa and Tommy Coetzee 21st, John Ogden and Kevin Clark 22nd, Sarel Coetzee and Carel Vos 24th and Keith Delport and Mikey Gerber 25th. The attrition was more than expected considering the condition of the roads and Hannes Strydom (Ford Sierra) , Johan Ferreria (Datsun Skyline) were out after the first stage was run. Other casualties further along in the event were Etienne Malherbe, Karl du Plessis and Keith Delport.
The night stages went off with out any challenges occurring and the cars that made it to the end, although some of them were not sounding so well, were all looking none the worse for wear.
Some actually sounded better at the end than at the start!
Although there was no beer and or booze selling facility the scoring was quick and efficient thanks to the radio marshals and Dirk de Vos our Chief Scorer.
The prize giving was 45min to a hour earlier than expected!
SAHRA thanks to our trophy sponsor Electric Centre Pretoria for the wonderful silverware we could hand out to all the winners!

Carina Kalp and Henry Dearlove our Chief Crowd Control Marshall and Master of Ceremonies at the prize giving.
